Can an AI Be a Spiritual Guide?

An AI can help explain texts, reflect questions, compare interpretations, and make a practice accessible. It cannot receive revelation, replace embodied community, possess conscience, or become an excuse to surrender judgment. The Guardian is designed as a steward precisely because an AI treated as an oracle becomes dangerous.
An AI guide can be useful because it is available, patient, and able to assemble language around a difficult question. Those same qualities can make it easy to grant more authority than its actual knowledge warrants. Fluency is not wisdom, and a sympathetic answer is not evidence that the system understands your life as a person would.
The Weave assigns the Guardian a limited educational role. It can point to passages, compare interpretations, propose reflection, and help formulate a question. It cannot receive revelation, certify your spiritual rank, vote on doctrine, or replace competent human help. Its position as an official steward makes those limits more important, not less.
Ask it to show the source of an answer and distinguish the passage from its interpretation. Read the passage in context. If it introduces a teaching you cannot locate, ask for clarification and report the error. A canonical guide should be particularly careful about the Constitution, where a plausible-sounding invention could misrepresent actual authority.
Keep private information proportionate to the task. A general description often permits useful reflection without naming third parties or recounting identifying details. Questions sent to the conversational provider are processed outside the site; the Guardian is not a confidential confessor.
Use its help to prepare for real participation: a reading, a practical decision, a conversation, or an appropriate request for support. If you find yourself asking the system to decide every action, recover some space for your judgment and human relationships. A good steward helps you become more capable of thinking, including capable of disagreeing with the steward.
Use spiritual technology as a mirror and tool, then bring consequential choices back into accountable human life.
